Research overview
To address inconsistent decomposition parameters at different locations, this study uses a global objective function covering all spatial positions to determine a single optimal cutoff frequency. Regional ground motions are then separated into dynamic and fault-slip-induced components.
In the study case, the optimal cutoff frequency is 0.29 Hz. The dynamic component mainly governs acceleration-related response, while the fault-slip-induced component mainly affects permanent displacement and long-period spectral characteristics. Their relative contributions differ markedly between the fault-parallel and fault-normal directions.
